Nowe Brzesko is the capital of the commune, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, in Proszowice county and inhabited by approximately 1,750 people. Most dwellers make their living on farming or on running their small businesses.

The first records about Nowe Brzesko come from the 13th century. At first, it was the property of Krakow bishops, but in 1223 it was taken over by the Norbertines from Hebdow. In 1449 King Casimir IV Jagiellon gave Nowe Brzesko town privileges which were later admitted twice: April 17, 1674 and October 4, 1767.
