Nowy Secymin

Located on the fringes of the Kampinos Primeval Forest, the village of Nowy Secymin has preserved some historic monuments from the period of Dutch colonisation, including several cottages and barns. You can also visit the colonists’ cemetery; take advantage of the wild Vistula beaches, the area’s biggest attraction; or hike or trek on horseback across the extensive meadows and through the Kampinos Primeval Forest.

Nowy Secymin TOURISM

Nowy Secymin is an ideal place for those seeking peace and quiet, a place where visitors find it hard to believe that the centre of Warsaw is a mere 40 km away! If you enjoy biking then why not take advantage of the numerous trails in the area. You can also fish in the Vistula or any of the nearby lakes, or perhaps pick mushrooms in the autumn. The Kampinos National Park offers the possibility of discovering rare species of animals and plants.

The dozen or so traditional houses and barns that still remain in Nowy Secymin were built of wood and originally roofed with thatch or reeds, although this was later replaced by tin. However, the most unique sight that everyone must see while in Nowy Secymin is the Evangelical church, erected in 1924 of poplar and oak. Today it stands in a wonderful state of preservation and is still used for sacral purposes. Inside is a sacristy of two rooms and a room of prayer, all especially worthy of attention.

In the western part of the village is a cemetery, which, although overgrown with thickets and quite devastated, still has numerous tombs in very good condition. Most date back to the 20th century, but the oldest are from the second half of the 19th century.

GEOGRAPHY

The village lies in the Masovian Voivodship, in the Leoncin community, on the north-western edge of the Kampinos National Park. It is situated just next to the Vistula levee, 40 km west of Warsaw and has a population of about 120.

Nowy Secymin stretches for a couple kilometres through a flat and wide landscape, infrequently interrupted by ancient willow trees, high poplars, some oak trees and outcrops of bushes. The surrounding countryside is divided into sections by ditches.
