The International Airport in Warsaw was first introduced to public use in 1969, after Poland had witnessed a dynamic development in aviation. At first there were about 80 planes leaving and arriving at the airport every day but it soon turned out that it was not enough. The airport was simply too small. Therefore, at the initiative of the Management of Air Traffic and Communication Airports a new arrivals hall was constructed, namely the “Finnish Hall”. In 1979 it took over all passengers traveling to Warsaw. It was used as an official arrivals terminal until 1992. This was when the construction of the new Terminal 1 was completed. It was multifunctional: there were a supermarket, a warehouse and a furniture store inside it, too. The “Finnish Hall’s” comeback took place on 26th March, 2004 after a thorough reconstruction and it has since then been operating as the “Etiuda Terminal”.
