A friendly, intimate, family-run inn among the residential Suchanino district of Gdansk, some 2.5 kilometres from the centre, Abak offers a tranquil respite for weary travellers. It consists of two buildings: a three-storey guesthouse built in 2003 standing inside the yard, and a villa housing the reception located next to the busy street. Frequent buses whisk guests downtown (around 10 minutes during low-traffic hours), but athletic types can also walk the distance in 30 minutes. Across the street there's a gas station, supermarket, taxi stand and bank.
There's a distinct sense of hospitality and family tradition cultivated by the attentive owners of this guesthouse that will make guests feel immediately at home. Bedrooms veer on the small side but they are all tastefully furnished in pastel colours, pinewood furniture and shower-only bathrooms. Each comes equipped with flat-screen satellite TVs and high-speed Internet access, while refrigerators, kettles, free coffee, tea and drinking water are provided on each floor. Mornings starts with varied, freshly-made breakfast buffet, which can be followed up by billiards, ping-pong, barbeque grilling or simple chill-out sessions in the garden. The owners have been running their own travel agency for several years and gladly provide practical information or organise transport.
