The dignified grandeur of Wolne Miasto is in perfect harmony with the historic Old Town surroundings. It occupies two 19th-century buildings, the main Swietego Ducha street structure, adjacent the city's former defence walls, opened in 2004 and the newer section round the corner in 2008. The hotel lies right in the midst of some oft he hippest restaurant, cafes and bars, and all the downtown attractions are easily accessible on foot. The central railway and bus stations are 10 minutes by public transport.
The hotel's commitment to history and grand style is felt in every detail, from the reproduction of dark, intricately-carved renaissance furniture, to balustrades and preserved small windows, plus hundreds of pre-war photographs of Gdansk and room individually named after historical sites in town. The reception staff, working from behind a large wood desk, assist guests with basic business services, free newspapers and the lending of umbrellas and even old-fashioned walking sticks.
