Villa Irena is situated almost in the centre of Sopot, in Chopin Street with lots of traffic. Irena is located half way between Southern Baths beach and Sopot railway station, only a few hundred metres from Monciak, the most popular street in Sopot. Through the windows, one can see similar, multi-storey villas with their gardens, and a gravel car park in the yard.
This historical, three-storey villa dates from around 1905, and is impressive with the height of the rooms, the spaciousness of the lobby, and the partly wooden stairs. The lack of a lift can constitute an obstacle for people who are elderly or disabled. The renovation of the facade has stripped the villa of the remaining ivy that formerly entwined it. The external doors have a little old-fashioned window that allows the staff to see you before letting you in. The decor and furnishings of the guesthouse, which has been in operation for a couple of years, needs renovation, and are simple if not spartan. There are showers, old decorative radiators, small TV-sets with cable TV in rooms that can accommodate one to four people, while half of the rooms have balconies. You can use the hotel’s electric kettle and heater, hairdryer, safe-box by contacting the reception. Irena is well known thanks to its old-Polish tavern in the cellar, equipped with solid wooden furniture that can hardly be overturned, decorated with paintings of Poles from the past centuries, as well as devils and hand written commemorative inscriptions on the walls, a peculiar form of documentation of other fine evenings held there. The equally well-known cafe-restaurant is in the Art Nouveau style, and is located on the high ground floor, with a loggia, stained-glass windows, antique chairs, tired piano, squeaking floor and free newspapers.
