The Helios is located between Krupowki Street, Zakopane's main throughfare packed with bars, restaurants and markets and the city's main bus and train stations. Both will take around five to ten minutes to walk to. The hotel overlooks the Równia Krupowa park, which has a kids play area. Also nearby is a funicular railway which chugs to the top of Gubałowka mountain, packed full of family attractions.
Helios is a concrete, three storey block offering simply styled budget busting rooms near the heart of the city centre. Slightly tired looking spaces are furnished with chunky chairs, blond wood fitted units and functional bathrooms with shower. Nearly all have a balcony with Tatra mountain views. Suites with two rooms and two bathrooms are also available. Two singles can be connected with a sliding door and each have their own bathroom - ideal for friends who want to share but still have a tad of privacy. On the ground floor the modern La Strada Restaurant serves up a fusion of Polish and Italian dishes in its trendy black and red setting or outdoors on the patio. All in all a good choice for money minded travellers who'd rather have a central location than a plethora of creature comforts.
