Szarotka is tucked away down a leafy country lane, off the beaten track of touristy Zakopane. It will take around half an hour to walk to the main high street Krupowki and main bus and train stations. The hotel's within easy reach of several starting points for walking trails and a ski lift.
Szarotka Pension dates from the 1920s and stepping inside it's hard to believe you're not back in that dapper decade. The owners have faithfully kept to the spirit of the house by furnishing it with 1920s antiques and mementos such as mountainering photos of the era. Guest rooms on lower floors have their original doors and frames and there's an air of faded elegance about the spaces with their lace curtains, velvet couches, rugs and knick knacks. Some come with balconies with views of the surrounding mountain peaks. A creaking staircase leads to simpler furnished rooms under the rafters with twin beds. All have rudimentary shower rooms. A small sofa lounge and a restaurant are cluttered with art nova figurines, antique cameras plus a baby grand piano. Szarotka is sure to delight visitors with its period charm and character.
