HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
Strikingly classy inside and out, Podewils Hotel is a small baroque palace dating back to 1728. Known as the "Blackhead House" thanks the relief above its entrance, this free-standing structure lies in the old part of Gdansk, by the Na Stepce Channel and next to the bridge leading to Olowianka Island boasting the Fryderyk Chopin's Baltic Philharmonic Hall. There is a seasonal ferry crossing the Motlawa River, while a walk to Long Market takes less than 15 minutes. The central railway station is approximately 1 kilometre away.
Far from the monochrome and minimalist interiors of big chain hotels, this boutique establishment is all about opulent old-world design fit for royalty. The intimate yet flamboyant scale of the reception and the discreet professionalism of the staff evident right upon entrance leads way to a handful of rooms, each individually decorated in different colours, antique furnishings and original paintings. Modern equipment comes in the form of air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, safe boxes, Wi-Fi Internet access and marble-clad bathrooms with hydro-massage showers or Jacuzzi tubs. From the deluxe rooms and suites there is a marvellous view on the historical Motlawa riverside, yacht marina, the Channel and the Island with its Central Maritime Museum, while the superior rooms have a view on Szafarnia Street and its apartment houses. The underground Bistro restaurant serves regional and international dishes and doubles as a conference room for up to 30 people.
