HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
A meticulously renovated and redesigned one-time fish smokehouse with five characteristic brick chimneys, Stara Wedzarnia is an intimate, family affair situated in the resort part of Gdansk, on the Island of Sobieszewo. Due to its former function, this split-floor structure lies right on the edge of the Vistula River, just a few kilometres from where it spills out into the Baltic Sea. The birds nature reserve "Ptasi Raj" (Birds' Paradise), only 300 meters away, is a heaven for a numerous flights of beauty and other wildlife. By car, during low traffic hours, it takes 15-20 minutes to reach Gdansk city centre, while the journey by bus (which stops just 100 metres from the property) takes around 30-40 minutes.
While much of the original elements of the smokehouse where left intact, including the chimneys, brick-topped window pains and wood beams, the interiors of the rooms where completely refitted with modern furnishings and equipment. Taking stylistic cues from Scandinavia, room boast a clean, crisp and somewhat spare aesthetic with wood flooring and decor elements in creamy beiges and browns. They all have satellite TVs, shower-only bathrooms and high-speed Internet access. There's a self-service coffee corner with a fridge on the top floor and the 50-seater restaurant on the bottom level doubles as a conference room on request.
