HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
You'll spot the Fortuna on the corner of a main road that leads straight into the beating heart of the medieval city centre with its many attractions. In the other direction culture vultures can trot to the National Museum to get a fix of art and culture. The main bus and train terminals are a five to ten minute taxi ride away.
Once an old schoolhouse, the Fortuna has since been lovingly converted into a charming and characterful mid-scale hotel. The reception and hallways are decorated with tapestries and wall paintings evoking grander days of yesterday. Rooms are simple and comfortable, with high ceilings, pretty patterned wallpaper and are carpeted throughout. Most rooms have an extra chair or sofa that can be converted into another bed. Bathrooms are spick and span, no more no less. A conference room is tucked away in the basement and the restaurant can rustle up lunch and dinner too. All in all, the Foruna has an aura of genteel if faded glamour.
This hotel has been visited by our reviewer in January 2010.
