HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
The Francuski is in a quiet spot just a few metres from the old medieval city wall and the Barbican. There are plenty of specialist jewellery and art galleries nearby as well as an open air art market held in high season, which uses the ancient boundary walls as 'hanging space'. The main market square is five minutes walk away and the main train and bus stations are only a five minute taxi cab ride away.
The Francuski has a definite touch of old world elegance about it, evident from the moment you step inside the lobby with its sweeping staircase, colonnades and cute little private telephone kiosk. The hotel holds a footnote in Krakowan history - when it opened in 1912 it was the first purpose built hotel in the city. There are original art deco features throughout the hotel. Rooms and suites are decorated in flock wallpaper with paintings and prints of yesteryear Krakow and their furnishings are satisfyingly old-fashioned and sturdy giving a certain chintz appeal. Bathrooms are well-equipped and spotless. Some suites are interconnecting making the Francuski ideal for families. From the beginning of the hotel, there always used to be an extraordinary restaurant run by the best Polish chefs. Sitting in the lobby listening to the chime of the grandfather clock it's easy to conjure up the era of dukes, duchesses and grand dowagers plotting while taking tea.
