HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
Pod Roza is situated on what was once Krakow’s Royal thoroughfare Florianska Street and today it's bustling with life, boutique stores, street buskers, restaurants and cafes. At one end of the street is the last perfectly preserved remnants of the old medieval walls and the other end leads straight into the main market square and onto Wawel Castle. The main train and bus stations are only a five minute cab ride away.
Pod Roza - which means 'Under the Rose' - is the oldest hotel in Krakow having received its first guests through its distinguished doorways in the 17th century. Today it's been stunningly redesigned as a 4-star boutique hotel featuring suites and rooms, which incorporate modern comfort with gorgeous furnishings along with historical features and a rich sense of the past. On entering the hotel you come into what was once a courtyard but is now a light, spacious restaurant with a cleverly designed glass canopy. Many rooms on the lower floors have original stucco work, woodblock floors and frescoes adorning the walls. Rooms on the upper floors have the bonus of birds eye views over the old city and are more modern in design. All room furnishings are in a French Napoleonic style and all bathrooms feature luxury Italian fittings with the added bonus of jacuzzi style bathtubs in the suites.
This hotel has been visited by our reviewer in January 2010.
