Hotel Pollera first swung open its doors in 1834 and it’s still going strong in the same spot just opposite the St. Cross Church in the city’s medieval centre. It’s a two minute amble to the main market square, packed full of historic buildings and museums. Also close by is the Barqoue Juliusz Słowacki Theatre. The city’s bus and train terminals are a ten minute walk away or a couple of minutes by taxi.
Pollera is a Cracovian institution run by descendents of the same family who opened it 180 years ago. It has genteel charm aplenty, hung with oil paintings of the family ancestors, a majestic double sided staircase and art deco stained glass windows. Rooms are a fair size and have high ceilings giving the spaces an airy feel. Furnishings, including draped lined windows and the odd antique, are charming if verging on the shabby chic. There’s an assortment of doubles, triples, quads and a few apartments to choose from. Pollera would be a great choice for anyone looking for a hotel that evokes the history of the city.
