A small modern family-owned and run hotel on the edge of Grabia River Landscape Beauty Park, literally next to the forest and close to a small river. It is situated on the border between the village of Dobron and well-known Kolumna, the favourite suburban residential area of pre-war factory owners from Lodz, a location rich in posh century-old villas. Kolumna is a part of the town of Lask, and the hotel is close to the Lodz - Sieradz Road and the railway, but away from their noise. Although the hotel is only some 25 km away from Lodz city centre, one feels the need to stay far from the metropolis, especially as driving times tend to stretch in the rush hour.
Unia's name, as the hotel flags and logo suggest, is related to the EU. The hotel caters for a good mix of guests, including military visitors to the nearby base, politicians gathering away from the public eye, sport teams, drivers in transit, wedding parties - all arriving by car. It is surrounded by a pleasantly large garden decorated with collected old agricultural tools and some sculptures. The building itself was built of brick, and "breaths", keeping the right temperature inside. It is proud of its "orangery", a glass extension to the restaurant and full of plants, overlooking the pond (fishing possible), the forest, and the roofed picnic area. A mini-zoo with ostriches and camels is next door.
