The Galicja Hotel sits on the outskirts of Oswiecim, about 15 minutes by bus or ten minutes by car from the Auschwitz Museum and the main train station. Krakow takes just over an hour by car or just under two hours by train. Tychy is a 20 minute drive away and Katowice about a forty minute drive away. Guests can also visit the nearby Jewish Cemetery and Oswiecim's castle and museum. The hotel is surrounded by an Italian trattoria, so don't bypass it, thinking the building's only a restaurant.
The Galicja is actually two buildings in one; an historic 19th century postal building harmoniously combined with a newer red-brick wing. Inside, the hotel has a warm rustic red Mediterranean colour scheme. Rooms are attractively decked out with light wood fitted furnishings, TV, free cable Internet and modern shower rooms. There are five apartments with more space and a few with their own private patio. With an Italian trattoria, Polish restaurant, patio seating, cellar pub, summer garden bar and billiards room, guests can bank on being kept well fed, watered and entertained here. Due to open in September 2010 will be an extension to the main hotel, which promises 18 higher standard rooms plus a spa, conference and banquet halls.
