HOTEL LOCATION & DESCRIPTION
One of Zakopane's oldest hotels, the Giewont shares its frontage with a KFC. It stands at the corner of Kupowki and Kosciuszki Streets, convenient for the many bars and restaurants nearby. Within easy reach is a huge outdoor weekend market that leads to the Gubalowka funicular railway. The Zakopane Style Museum is close by in the same road and the Tatra Museum is located in Krupowki.
The Giewont first opened its doors in 1960 and stepping inside it might feel as though little has changed since then. Rooms come as standard and standard plus and the main difference between the two is in the size. The stark looking spaces are fitted out with regulation furnishings, frilly curtains and a functional bath or shower room. Standard plus comes with a kettle, fridge and two double beds. The restaurant, with its Rocco style chandeliers, grand piano and secretive dining alcove, might once have hosted palatial parties - yet sadly it now only serves breakfast. A stay in the Giewont won't be a luxurious one, but with the shadow of its glory days hanging over it, it might make quite an interesting one.
