The Willa Carlton is located along a leafy residential road and is about a five to ten minute walk from the main thoroughfare, Krupowki. The main bus and train terminals will take around 15 to 20 minutes on foot to get to. Within easy reach are the starting points for serveral mountain trails, such as Dolina Białego, popular with beginner hikers.
One of Zakopane's 'classic' hotels, Willa Carlton combines the faded grandeur of its salon and library with simply furnished accommodation. It opened as a family-run hotel in the 1920s and photos of the original owners are hung in the restaurant. The villa retains a wealth of original features including the black and white chequered hallway, the staircase and picture windows. The plant-filled saloon with its baby grand piano, art deco paintings, fireplace and pink sofas is a sedate place to relax in. Basically furnished, creaky floored rooms are decked out with blond wood furniture, desk, TV and flowery bedspreads. Some have balconies overlooking the garden and room layout and size can vary. While the rooms may be nothing special, the hotel with its inter-war twang is and that alone makes it well worth a stay.
