The Katowice is located squarely on one of the main throughfares of the city, which boasts a shopping centre and a number of international businesses. The Spodek conference centre is also nearby the hotel. The main bus and train stations are about a 10 minute walk away. When arriving, look out for the imposing facade of this ten-storey hotel with its rather sombre Soviet style concrete canopy.
Every Polish city seems to have at least one Soviet-era monolith hotel that's been dragged into the 21st century and the Katowice is the one in this town. First impressions smack of the 1970s, especially the kiosk-style reception desks. However the rooms come, more or less, as a nice surprise. Many have their original parquet flooring and are fitted with chunky wooden furnishings and colourful rugs. There's quite a bit of variation in size between rooms of the same capacity and price, so try to get a 'large' single or twin room. The Katowice has various sized conference rooms and a restaurant serving up wholesome Polish dishes. For lovers of 70s retro kitsch, Katowice is going to be the place to stay.
