Found along the Motlawa River promenade, Hanza Hotel sits neatly amongst a row of five-storey houses that face the busy waterway. The hotels architecture is more prominent from the riverside entrance (there's also an entryway from Tokarska Street) as it relates to the houses and brick-built granaries that are typical of the Hanseatic cities. It counts the 15th-century Crane, Golden Gate, and Mariacka Street's amber galleries and souvenir shops amongst its neighbsours, which are all a few minutes walk of the property. The central trains station is about 20 minutes on foot and the Gdansk Airport is 13 kilometres away.
With its picturesque port-side location and four-star amenities this charming accommodation caters to demanding corporate clientele. It's not for those who get off super-edgy design, but the conservatively modern interiors with watercolours depicting Gdansk motives are most appealing and with the new management taking over in 2010, the design is bound to get a stylish boost. Air-conditioned rooms range from small to spacious, with double-glaze windows, fine beds and spotlessly maintained tub-filled bathrooms. The upgraded suites come with pull-out sofas, personal safes, corner Jacuzzi tubs and some even have balconies, but flat-screen satellite TVs, minibars and high-speed Internet access are standard in all units. There's a fitness room and sauna and two midsize conference rooms, but the big draw here is the ground-floor restaurant serving regional and international meals in elegant interiors and the spacious summer patio right next to the river.
