The Corona is situated just outside Tychy's city centre in a relatively isolated spot next door to the region's Fiat car headquarters. The town of Oswiecim, where the Auschwitz Museum is located, can easily be reached in around half an hour from the hotel. Also nearby is Pszczyna, well worth visiting for its castle and lush parkland. Katowice can be reached in around half an hour and the city's airport in under an hour by car.
With its ranch style setting and cool, tiled interiors, the Corona feels a bit like an Hispanic Hacienda. Rooms are split between two wings with Comfort Plus on one side, which are generously sized and are decorated in trademark hotel colours, chocolate brown and white. Here the heat is kept at bay by a crafty micro-climate cooling system. On the other side are standard spaces, decked out in a simpler style while shower rooms, if a little dated, are gleamingly spotless. A ground floor restaurant open to 10pm and patio terrace are a bonus, given the lack of alternative watering holes nearby. A stay at the Corona should be the perfect antidote for time pushed business folk.
