This is probably the first and only trip into the heart of the Polish Gypsy culture. You’ll have the unique opportunity to learn about the way of life and customs of this amazing community, which to many of us is still exotic.

The Gypsies, who have lived in the region of Lesser Poland for many centuries, became part of Polish society as the Poles’ neighbors, friends and business partners. However, they’ve never given up their way of life, customs and fascinating culture. In the 1960s, they were prohibited from travelling around in their traditional horse-drawn carts, and moved into regular blocks of flats and houses. But they still use the horse carts from time to time, meet by the campfire, play guitars, dance and sing.

First, you’ll visit the local ethnographic museum and meet your Gypsy guide there. The guide will introduce you to their people’s culture through a vast collection of photographs and paintings. Part of the exhibition is devoted to the Romany martyrdom during the Holocaust, which is so rarely discussed. After the historical part of the tour, you’ll be driven around the marvelous Tarnow Old Town in a real Gypsy caravan until you arrive at a restaurant that’ll introduce you to the traditional cuisine of this fascinating community.
