As the most well-known cemetery and genocide site in the world, this former Nazi German concentration camp conveys an indelible impression because it lets the visitors visualize the enormous scale of the Holocaust.

It was the biggest extermination camp, and the site of the most extensive genocide. Between 1940-1945, the Nazis killed about 1,500,000 people here, mainly Jews, but also Poles, Gypsies, Russians POWs and members of other nationalities. The area, listed as an UNESCO World Heritage, is well preserved and currently it houses the Holocaust Museum

At the Museum, you will be taken on a guided tour which begins with a 15-minute introductory documentary film. After that, you visit the brick-mortar barracks in Auschwitz I, and the extensive, depressing area of the wooden huts in the Auschwitz II – Birkenau extermination camp. The most enduring impressions are made by the shocking gas chambers, the crematoria, death cells, barbed wire and the eerie , silent watchtowers.
