Hotel Grodek is in a secretive little spot within the medieval city centre, tucked up a side street next door to the Dominican Convent and a few minutes walk from the Mały Rynek – the smaller of the two market squares. All the main tourist attractions are within an easy walk, including the stunning medieval Cloth Hall, St.Mary’s Church and Wawel Castle and the main bus and train stations are a five minute taxi ride away.
In a city with more than its fair share of places to stay with old-world charm, the Grodek boutique hotel really stands out and easily lives up to its five-star billing. The reception sets the tone with a dramatic stone fireplace and a staircase leads down to a gentlemens' club style bar furnished with leather bound books and Rocco furniture, just the place to unwind with a whisky on the rocks. The 21 rooms and two suites set over four floors are exquisitely furnished in individual themes, from Napoleonic deep blues and reds to an Oriental suite, with a real attention to detail. The restaurant incorporates a display of archaeological finds from when the hotel was renovated and on the top floor guests can enjoy magnificent views of the medieval city centre from the roof terrace.
