The Secret Garden Hostel is on a side road just off the main drag that leads from Wawel Castle to Kazimierz and opposite it is St.Catherine's convent. The building has a grey facade and you'll need to ring the buzzer to get in. From the hostel you can pretty much get to Wawel, the centre of Kazimierz and the main square in 15 to 20 minutes. The main bus and train stations are about a five minute cab ride away.
It would be great if a few more budget pads could take a leaf out of The Secret Garden's book because this is grade A hostel living. Run by the friendly Szczech family this delectable little oasis offers two, three, four and five bedder rooms. All have modern Ikea furniture and are spotlessly clean, as are the shared bathrooms. Dorms have their own locker and can be booked for a group or for individuals. Upstairs there's a seductive low-lit chill out room with cosy purple sofas, Internet points and a fab photo montage of Krakowian life. Each corridor of rooms has its own theme, such as the film wing featuring the 'Clorkwork Orange' room in sunshine orange and yellows. Secret Garden is an ace choice for a cheap, cheerful and cosy stay. Note, there's no lift to the first floor.
