Built in 1974, Hotel Ikar cannot hide its Soviet-style roots. Still functioning as a state-owned enterprice, this block building stretches out across ten floors, with the second level earmarked for army officers. Over the past few years, much effort has been applied to refurbish the rooms which now provide higher standard for business and leisure travellers. It's situated approximately 700 metres from the Old Town market square and a 10-munite bus ride away from the central train station and International Fair Ground.
Spread over nine floors, rooms in this 70s-style structure become more modern the higher up you go. Units on the eight floor are air-coniditioned and boasts blond-wood desks, wardrobes, furnishings in varying complimentary colours and bathrooms with shower cubicles. Units on lower levels come in different styles - some have parquet flooring, creamy wallpaper and plastic Wicker-like chairs, but they all have satellite TVs, fridges and broadband Internet access. The ground floor restaurant serves a straightforward menu of international favourites and there's also four conference rooms for up to 200 participants.
