The Monte Cassino is situated right beside the promenade known as the “Heroes of Monte Cassino Street”. There are an art gallery, cafe and ice-cream parlour downstairs, as well as dozens of restaurants, galleries, shops nearby that all add to the thriving nightlife. A multifunctional Haffner Centre is being built close to it. The rooms are equally close to the Pier and Sopot railway station, both a few minutes away on foot. All four rooms have windows overlooking the calm yard, while the apartment windows overlook the promenade.
Available since 2004, the guest rooms and the apartment are located on the second floor of a four-storey, pale-almond, pre-war apartment house, decorated with a monster’s relief above its entrance. A business card is fixed to the intercom so you know whose button to press, important as there are private apartments on all other floors. One has to climb stairs, as there is no lift, and then go through stained-glass doors decorated with the coat of arms of Sopot, and welcome phrases in several languages. The doors, reception, lobby, antechamber and hallway decor match with the character of the building, and are several dozen years old. The reception counter is large, out of proportion in comparison with the number of rooms. The reception offers films on DVD and PlayStation games, helps organise your stay, makes hot beverages, sends faxes, and supplies newspapers. There are safe-boxes, refrigerators, and cable TV on LCD monitors, DVD players, and Internet access in all air-conditioned rooms. Beds have especially ordered, solid mattresses with an anti-bacteria coating. Rooms are high, with large wardrobes, and rather small bathrooms with showers. Breakfasts are served as set portions brought to the rooms at an agreed time.
