Hidden away in the verdant woodland of the Pszczyna Forest by the Paprocany Lake, is the Noma Residence Hotel. To reach the hotel from Krakow or Katwoice via the E75, guests need to turn off onto a lane for the hotel - however it's poorly signposted from the main highway. To reach these cities, takes about half an hour to Katowice by car or around an hour and a half to Krakow.
The Noma was built in the style of a medieval hunting lodge by the Dukes of Pszczyna in 1861 and a stay here's a bit like entering a time warp back to the grand old days of shooting parties and carriage rides. The oak panelled lobby, dining halls and rooms are full of furry inhabitants, including full size stuffed bears and deer trophies. A swirling staircase leads up to to the first floor and guestrooms unlocked with a medieval iron key. Rooms have Gothic lead mullioned windows, some of which overlook the lake, oil paintings and antique furnishings. Mini bars and modern shower rooms come as standard. The dining area is fit for an Emperor's banquet, with its soaring stained glass windows, oak rafted ceiling and Renaissance open fireplace. With a sauna tucked away, garden pagodas and forest walking and biking trails, there's no shortage of activities here to stay fit and healthy.
