Sobibor and Belzec
This private limousine tour is intended primarily for people interested in the contrasts of history, the destinations being some of the most notorious places of the Nazi-generated genocide and, in opposition, the beautiful Renaissance city of Zamosc.
You will start your journey with a visit to the small border town of Wlodawa, which was said to be the town of 3 cultures (Roman Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox Christian) and which still has a beautiful Jewish synagogue. The nearby death camp in Sobibor was established by the Nazis in 1942 and approximately 250 000 people were murdered there. In October 1943 a large group of prisoners launched a revolt led by Alexander Pechersky, where about 300 Jews escaped although most of them died on the way. From Sobibor you will pass through Chelm as you head to Zamosc, where you will have a short walk through the Old Town (a UNESCO heritage site) to outbalance your earlier sombre experience. Your next stop will be the memorial site at the former Nazi death camp in Belzec, where about half a million victims were murdered and only 1 person survived. You will visit a museum devoted to the history of the camp and afterwards return to Lublin.
